St. Lucia band members

St. Lucia is an indie pop band founded by South African musician Jean-Philip Grobler. It is known for its vibrant, nostalgic, and synth-driven sound, blending 1980s-inspired pop with modern indie influences. Grobler, who grew up in Johannesburg, later moved to New York, where he formed St. Lucia in 2012. His music draws on influences from his upbringing and his love for artists like Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, and Madonna.

The band’s music is marked by lush, layered synthesizers, catchy melodies, and upbeat rhythms. Their debut album, When the Night, was released in 2013 and included hits like “Elevate” and “Closer Than This.” This album helped establish their signature sound and brought them a fan base appreciative of their energetic live performances.

St. Lucia’s follow-up albums, Matter (2016) and Hyperion (2018), continued to explore themes of love, freedom, and self-discovery, with production that emphasizes both introspective and celebratory moods. Grobler often collaborates with his wife, Patti Beranek, a band member who contributes backing vocals.

St. Lucia has toured extensively, gaining a reputation for delivering lively, immersive performances. The band’s blend of pop nostalgia and forward-looking production has made them a mainstay in the indie pop scene, attracting fans who appreciate their throwback vibe mixed with contemporary twists.
